Social Media for Brand Recognition

Social Media is everywhere we turn and linked to just about every site on the World Wide Web. With all this presence how can we be sure our business brand is getting out there? Are we posting enough? Too much? Today we will look at the different platforms, how to use them, and just how much is too much.

The Social Media Toolbox

First of all, if you are a business that doesn't have a single Social Media account, it is time to step into the modern era immediately. Go and sign up for at least the top platforms: Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. For everyone's clarity, let's talk about what each platform offers to the business owner.

Every day of 4.5 billion Likes are generated by the 1.5 billion active Facebook users. However, only 0.5% of users who hit the Like button have actually engaged with the corresponding brand. Don't be discouraged though, 38% of users are more likely to recommend your brand to others. Don't forget, word of mouth spreads like a wildfire! Facebook also offers Post Boosting and Ads to help you really drive traffic to your website or blog.

Twitter boasts over 500 million users and growing. Of those users about 40% of them don't actually tweat but instead watch other Twitter users. This is good news for the business owner trying to acquire brand recognition through tweeting. The best part of Twitter is that an average of 20% of users who click on a Tweet make a purchase! About 23% of all users also posted positive comments about brands that they clicked on.

Pinterest is one of the fastest growing Social Media platforms in the past 12 months, seeing over a 2000% increase in users. Pins that are clicked average 70% more money spent than any other platform! With 80% of Pinterest users being women, it is a great platform for Food & Beverage, Crafts & DIY, and Women's Fashion companies that are looking to promote their brand. If you don't fit into those categories, don't sweat it because the other categories make up the remaining 70% of Pins!

Using the Tools You Have

Now that you know what is out there, let's take a few moments to talk about how we can use these powerful tools. As mentioned above, Facebook offers a slew of great ways to get your brand recognized. Once you have a Facebook Page (the equivalent of a User Profile for businesses), posting features of your product or service is just the tip of the icepick. Once you make a post you can give it a boost with as little as $5 and select your target group of users by location, age, and sex. If that wasn't enough, you can also create full -blown Facebook Ads to get your brand out to the 4.5 billion Facebook users. 

Using Twitter is fairly straight to the point, you have 160 characters to create a catchy title, a shortened link (we recommend, and any hashtags (those words preceeded with a # symbol) you want to include. Your link can be to an individual product page, a blog article, or even to a product or service that your company trusts or likes.

Pinterest takes things one step further by introducing the ability to add images directly to your Pins. While it still gives you the capability to add a title, links, and hastags the focus for Pinterest is the image. If you don't have an image for your post, skip Pinterest because posts without them rarely get shared with others according to statistics from Pinterest.

Enough Is Enough

Knowing how often to post is perhaps one of the mostly frequently asked questions in Social Media marketing. The truth is that there is no single correct answer for any or even all of the platforms out there. The key is to know your customer base and how they behave toward your products or services. However, here are a few rules of thumb for those of you who are just starting out. For Facebook, a post per day should be enough unless you are running a special promotion that involves a timeline or clock. Twitter is a bit different becase the feed of Tweets are continuous. This allows you to post up to 3 times per day and still not be that "annoying brand" spamming a users Tweet Deck or Hoot Suite feeds. Pinterest prides itself on keeping its users active the longest, in fact the American users spend an average of 1 hour and 17 minutes on the site! This means Pins can come in many different quantities, the rule here though is to keep it to under 4 per day and nothing on the weekends.
